This wonderfully simple story reminds us that small interventions can have big results – and why the support you give matters.
Thanks to a generous donation from a Christian organisation in Germany, two families supported by A2B Albania have just received goats. These goats are a real lifeline for a grandfather living in the mountains caring for his grandson and a couple looking after their granddaughter in a remote area, with barely anything to their name. Each family has now been given a goat – plus two kids (baby goats, not children!).
It might not sound like much, but this is a life-changing gift. The goats provide fresh milk, nourishing the family and enabling a small but steady income stream, from daily, local sales. Even more than that, goats are resourceful animals that breed regularly. Within a year, these families could have several more – some to keep, some to sell. And a couple of times a year, they can sell a goat for meat, bringing in a significant lump sum they could never otherwise earn.
This kind of gift is sustainable. It doesn’t create dependency. It gives families a chance to stand on their own feet. In some of the more remote areas where A2B works, that opportunity means the world.
It’s easy to forget that this level of poverty still exists in Europe, but it does. There are families without running water. Homes without electricity. Parents who walk for hours to reach a road or catch a bus. People who are doing everything they can – but still can’t provide enough for their children.
This is why we’re so grateful to be in a position to help. A gift like this doesn’t just meet a need – it restores dignity. It tells someone, “You matter. You’re not forgotten. There is hope.”
