Four years ago, Stesi came to the House of Opportunity with many questions and very few answers.
His future was uncertain; he was unsure of what he truly wanted and had no dreams of his own. Carrying deep wounds from a traumatic childhood, he needed not only a place to live, but someone who would believe in him at a time when he didn’t know how to believe in himself.
At the House of Opportunity he found care, safety, commitment, and people who refused to give up on him. But above all, he found the space to discover that his life could be so much more than what he had experienced up to that point. Stesi began to dream.
Today, Stesi stands proudly before us, wearing his graduation gown and marking an achievement that fills our hearts with joy: he has graduated with a degree in Social Work, as one of the top students in his department!
This is not simply a graduation. This is transformation.
It is evidence of what can happen when a young person is given an opportunity, when he or she is invested with genuine love and commitment, and when dedication meets perseverance. The House team continually encouraged him not to give up on himself or on the dreams that were beginning to grow within him. Stesi himself worked incredibly hard to make his dream a reality.
Today, Stesi’s dreams are no longer unclear. He holds a diploma in his hands, a profession ahead of him, and a story he can share with others: “Even when you don’t know where you are going, there may be someone who helps you find the way.”
We are proud of him. Not only because of what he has achieved, but because of the person he has become during his journey.
This is what House of Opportunity does: It doesn’t simply give young people a roof over their heads, it gives them an opportunity to build their lives, pursue their dreams, and become people who will one day make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Today, Stesi is no longer the boy who arrived without dreams, he is a professional who has learned to dream, to persevere, and to believe that his future, and the futures of those who have suffered like him, can be different.
Today, we mark one of the most beautiful successes of House of Opportunity. Bravo Stesi!
